Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot during an election speech in the city of Nara.
According to some reports, Radio Free Europe writes that his alleged attacker was arrested. Former Tokyo governor Yoichi Masuzoe said in a tweet that the 67-year-old is in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest.

Abe was giving a speech for an election candidate in Nara when the attack happened. He has broken records as the longest serving prime minister of Japan. He served for one year in 2006 and then again from 2012 to 2020, when he resigned for health reasons. He later discovered that ulcerative colitis, an intestinal disease, had returned.
Abe was succeeded by his close party ally, Yoshihide Suga, who was later replaced by Fumio Kishida.
