The former controversial mayor of the Municipality of Vora, Agim Kajmaku, after ping pong, hiding from the confrontation with the Albanian justice, now has open accounts with the Italian justice.
Businessman Agim Kajmaku selected as a candidate by the SP by being declared the winner in the local elections of June 30, 2019, according to Italian media was arrested in the neighboring country at the end on May 27, on charges of cocaine trafficking.
It was the owner of the nursery in the area of San Benedetto del Tronto who signaled the Italian police which after the investigation discovered the cocaine hidden in the vase and handcuffed Agim Kajmaku together with his nephew.
Police seized 20 kg of cocaine which if thrown on the market would be worth about 1 million euros. The narcotics were hidden inside plant vases purchased by Kajmaku, in a nursery from Grottamare.
A year after taking office as mayor, Agim Kajmaku was placed in the cyclone of PD accusations that he had hidden a sentence in Greece. The Democratic Party through a document proved that Kajmaku in Greece was convicted using the false name Jorgo Toto.
Although the Greek court acquitted him of the charge of counterfeiting banknotes, for the Albanian justice Kajmaku could not escape the problems because he should have declared the 2003 arrest in the self-declaration form that all officials must submit to Central Election Commission before entering the election race.
The denunciation and report of the opposition, served the Tirana prosecutor’s office to raise charges of ‘forgery of forms’, ‘forgery of documents committed in cooperation’ and ‘exceeding the exercise of powers beyond the mandate’.
In the conditions when the Court of Tirana accepted the request for arrest in prison, Agim Kajmaku chose to hide and be included in the police lists as a wanted person.
In August 2020, Kajmaku was to be treated at a private hospital from where police executed an arrest warrant ending almost two years of hiding.
Based on the circumstances of the health condition, the court imposed the measure of obligation to appear.
Although Agim Kajmaku hid from the Albanian justice, the 3 charges against him were dropped.
Regarding the arrest episode in Italy, the Democratic MP Gazment Bardhi, says that “Edi Rama appointed Agim Kajmaku mayor of Vora and he would be in office today if the DP had not denounced his criminal past.”
Gazement Bardhi re-published an excerpt from an interview the Prime Minister gave to journalist Sokol Balla.
