Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder will visit Moscow this Thursday to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the war in Ukraine.
It is learned that Schröder is trying to mediate with Putin a solution to end the war in Ukraine.
The former German chancellor is on the board of directors of many Russian energy companies such as Gazprom, Rosneft, Nord Stream.
Earlier, it was recalled that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called on Schroder to resign as chairman of the board of the Russian state-owned company Rosneft.
He made the statement in an interview with German television station ZDF, stressing that proximity to Russian companies is no longer a “personal matter”.
The former German chancellor also led a project known as “Nordstream 1” and “Nordstream 2” which aimed to bring Russian gas directly to Germany via Ukraine. However, this project was not certified by the German state.
Gerhard Schroder held the post of Chancellor of Germany from 1998 to 2005.
