The first tests have arrived in our country to diagnose suspected cases with the monkey line or their contacts.
The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Ogerta Manatirliu informed that the tests for the monkey line will be performed in Albania.
“In the reference laboratory at the Institute of Public Health we have already made it possible for the first 250 cases that may be suspected, to have specific tests in this laboratory. So, we will be able to test suspected cases and also suspected case contacts in this laboratory, without taking them to reference laboratories.“, Said Manastirliu from the laboratory at IPH.
To monitor the situation for the monkey line, the Director of the Institute of Public Health, Dr. Eugena Tomini said: “We currently have again engaged surveillance such as that of monkey pox, increasing the diagnostic capacity at the Institute of Public Health and moreover the diagnosis is performed on site, despite the fact that we have constant communication with the network of reference laboratories in Europe, to confirm the diagnosis”.
According to the European Center for Disease Control, Albania is assessed as low risk in terms of monkey pox. European countries are already on alert, as there are more than 29 countries where more than 1,700 cases of monkey pox have been reported.
