The president of Ukraine and the first lady Olena Zelenska have said in the British program ‘Talk TV’ of Piers Morgan that the brutal war with Russia has made them “more interested in each other”.
Daily Mail writes that in the clip of the interview that will be broadcast tomorrow, Zelensky and his wife Olena are closer now that Russia is bombing their country.
The couple is seen leaving their residence in Kiev not for the war but for the relationship between them, in a kind of “reality show” within the conflict.
British interviewer Morgan asks the couple: “These kinds of situations are crucial for a relationship, do you think you’re stronger with what you’re going through?”
Zelenska answers: “Yes, I agree with the theory that marriage becomes stronger with challenges, so it is for us too.”
“We have become more interested in each other, I hope that these challenges will make us more united.”
The first lady then turns to ask her husband, who is currently leading the resistance against the Russian occupation forces, for his opinion on their marriage.
Zelensky replies: “My answer is the same.”
The woman jokingly tells him: “But you should have your opinion.”
Laughing, the president replies: “When you are next to me, your opinion is a priority!”
Zelenska married her husband in 2003 and they have two children, nine-year-old Kyrylo and 18-year-old Oleksandra.
Zelenska last week visited the US on a diplomatic mission to seek more air combat systems.
In her emotional speech, she appealed for “air weapons systems to save children in strollers from Russian missiles.”
“Russia wants to kill innocent people,” Zelenska said as she showed images of a child with an artificial leg after, she said, “it was hit by Russia’s attacks.”
