Albanian refereeing is making great strides towards the international football arena. Once, only men, while now women are also writing the history of Albanian refereeing in Europe.
Erinda Kume is the first Albanian referee, who was selected to participate in the final stage of the European U-19 Championship for women. A few days ago, she was appointed as an assistant in the England-Norway match, thus marking a great personal achievement, but also for the world of Albanian refereeing.
In an exclusive interview for fshf.org, she recounts the emotions and feelings of being the first female official to participate in an event of this importance. She states that the responsibility to be a part of such matches is much greater, while emphasizing that such achievements also come from the good work being done by the Arbitration Sector in the AFL. Also, Erinda shows her intentions for the future.
Erinda, the first Albanian referee to participate in a European final stage, tell us a little about the emotions you experienced?
The feelings I experienced when I was selected for a European final are difficult to describe in words. It was without a doubt a very enthusiastic feeling. I must say without the slightest doubt that this selection is a great achievement both for me personally and for the world of Albanian refereeing and the development of girls’ refereeing in our country. The selection to be part of such a competition once again confirms the good work that is being done with the refereeing.
The emotions of the first match. Tell us a little more about your refereeing and the difference with other international matches you have refereed in your career?
To referee matches in a European final stage and matches of this level, I must say, are completely different from the matches I have refereed before. First of all, the emotion and commitment is greater, as is the responsibility. I will remember the first match, which was also my debut, for a long time in my refereeing memories because they are sensations that are not experienced twice in the same form.
What does it mean for the Albanian arbitration that a girl is part of a European?
For the Albanian referee, this representation in a final stage of the European Championship was one of the biggest successes. An indication that the refereeing sector and the AFL have worked well, are laying solid foundations for further growth and certainly confirmed the fact that if you work hard and set priorities, work pays off and this representation of mine was the representation of all the girls who are today in the refereeing of Albanian football. Young referees should consider my achievement as a very good omen and be a support for them and their future in this field.
What are your goals for the future? What objectives does Erinda Kume have?
After this important international representation and this achievement, I want to emphasize that my goals have become even bigger and more determined for this profession. When you achieve something that you dream of, you start to be motivated to give more of yourself and not see the limits ahead. My objectives will speak to the time and work I will do every day!
