A ‘rabid’ father from Georgia to the US, tracked down his daughter’s whereabouts with her mobile phone and shot at the 17-year-old with whom he found her, local police reported.
Authorities in Habersham responded to gunshots heard near a church at noon yesterday. Upon arrival, officers found 36-year-old Dustin Vandegrift attempting to leave the scene in a white Camaro. Police said they made sure the two schools located in them were closed and then found the victim, the 17-year-old boy who was taken to hospital in stable condition.
Vandergrift told police he had tracked down his daughter’s cell phone and had gone to check.
When he had found the daughter with the boy of the same age he had confronted them and consequently had shot once with a gun at him.
Vandergrift’s daughter said the father had come and attacked the boy she was with, before shooting him with a gun, while adding that the jealous father had also hit himself.
The man has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, domestic violence and two counts of injuring and endangering public safety.
