West Bromwich Albion have appointed former Newcastle former Steve Bruce as their new manager under an 18-month deal. The 61-year-old replaces Valerien Ismael, who left the club on Wednesday after a negative performance (a victory in seven games).
The former Aston Villas, Hull, Sunderland and Birmingham manager left Newcastle in October, shortly after taking ownership of the club from Saudi Arabia.
Bruce has extensive experience in the second tier of English football, having twice won promotion to the Premier League with both Birmingham City and Hull City.
“I am happy to have the opportunity to lead a club that has such a great history and tradition,” said Bruce, whose first game will be in the Sheffield United transfer on February 9. “I did not anticipate returning to management so soon, but once I got a call from Ron Gourlay (chief executive), I knew I could not resist the challenge of getting this club back where it deserves to be.”
