The actress starring in dozens of films in Mexico has been shot dead as her son waits with other parents outside the football academy in the affluent Cuernavaca area.
Famous Mexican showbiz character Tania Mendoza, who was also known for her roles in the serial for drug cartels ‘La Mera Reyna del Sur’, was killed in execution style while waiting for her son to leave the football academy.
The 42-year-old and other parents were waiting outside the Unidad Felinos Deportiva complex when the two motorcycle suspects stopped in front of her.
One of the assailants got off and as the other parents were leaving to defend themselves, he fired several shots at the television star, before returning to the motorcycle and leaving.
Mendoza was pronounced dead at the scene.
Local media said the incident happened on Tuesday, December 14, at 6:30 p.m.
The Cuernavaca area has reportedly become a symbol of the chaos and lawlessness that drug cartels have already brought to the Mexican capital.
Mendoza, her young son and husband Rafael Sánchez Rojas, were previously the victims of a 2010 kidnapping.
They were taken and beaten by an armed gang, before being released a few hours later, when they discovered that their house had been looted.
The gang later contacted Mendoza to ask for money and order him to leave Morelos.
The actress had started her successful career in 2003 with the series La Mera Reyna del Sur, Mendoza and since then she has starred in many movies and series.
She had also released several albums with songs.
A UN report last month said Mexico is the most dangerous country in the world for women. 948 were killed there in 2020, almost as many as 951 in 2019.
