It is the pride of Paris and one of the most popular attractions in the world. But the Eiffel Tower is in desperate need of repair.
The towering steel structure that dominates the city of lights is said to be in a deplorable state and is covered in rust.
But instead of repair work, it will undergo a $60 million facelift ahead of the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
This is revealed in a confidential report cited by the French magazine ‘Marianne’.
It is the 20th time that the tower has undergone painting. With a height of 324 meters, it was built by Gustave Eiffel at the end of the 19th century.
An unidentified manager near the monument told the French magazine that if Eiffel were to visit his work now he would suffer a heart attack.
Top Albania Radio writes that the company that oversees the tower has not yet commented on the reports.
The attraction is visited every year by about 6 million tourists and the authorities are reluctant to close it for the necessary repairs because of the huge income that would be lost as a result of absent tourists.
The famous Eiffel Tower, which was built in 1889, is the most recognizable piece of architecture in Paris, France. Its height stands at 1,063 meters long.
In order to go to the top, you will have to pay a little more than 31 dollars (26€). In addition, you will have to spend a lot of time standing in line.
You can find an almost exact copy of this tower in the Chinese city of Hangzhou in the park of the residential area known as Tianducheng. His mission is to imitate the details of Parisian design. Entry is free.
