The 5.5 magnitude earthquake that shook our country on Sunday evening had its epicenter in Florina, a city in northern Greece. The affected countries besides Albania are also Greece, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia and Northern Macedonia according to data reported by Google.
In Albania, the tremors were reportedly felt in Korça, Tirana, Durrës, while the lowest intensity was in other cities such as Lezha, Gjirokastra, Vlora.
According to the Institute of Geosciences, the earthquake in Albania was felt with a magnitude of 5.6 and was recorded at 21:43, while the epicenter was in the city of Bilisht. An announcement was also made by the Ministry of Defense:
“The tremors that were felt in our country had their epicenter on the border between northern Macedonia and Greece, according to preliminary data from IGJEUM, about 40 km northeast of Bilisht with a magnitude of 5.6 on the Richter scale. The intensity of the earthquake is estimated at 6 points according to the MSK-64 scale.
“Although very early, no damage has been reported so far, however, all civil emergency structures are in full readiness to identify and then react in any situation.”
