The death toll from the powerful tornadoes that devastated many cities in the US state of Kentucky could reach over 100, warned the governor of this state, Andy Beshear.
So far, 80 victims have been confirmed in Kentucky alone, while another 14 have been reported in four other states.
Six people have died in Illinois after an Amazon warehouse with about 100 people inside collapsed. Some people there continue to remain missing.
Four victims have been confirmed in Tennessee, two in Arkansas and one in Missouri.
Hopes of finding survivors are fading. No survivors have been found since Saturday morning.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beasher said the storm that hit the country last week was the most devastating in the state’s history.
“Nothing that stood in front of the tornado, is no more“, Said Beasher.
US President Joe Biden declared a state of emergency in Kentucky and ordered the most affected areas to be helped. He also signed the Federal Declaration of Emergency, enabling financial assistance to Kentucky.

Rescue crews are relentlessly searching for survivors, while distributing water and generators to locals.
More than 300 National Guard members are going from house to house, clearing areas and looking to survive.
“We are still hoping that the miracle will happen and we will find more people,” said Governor Beasher during a visit to Mayfeld, the most affected area.
Mayfield has been described by officials as a “zero point” and an apocalyptic city. The city, according to them, was hit by about 30 storms.
“This seems to be our normal state. And, the effects we are seeing from climate change are a crisis of our generationSaid Deanne Criswell of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
David Norseworthy, a 69-year-old builder from the town of Mayfield, said the storm destroyed the roof of his home as the family took refuge in a shelter.
“We have never had anything like this here before“He told the AFP news agency.
As Americans face the tragedy, condolences to the victims are coming from all over the world.
