The coryphaeus of the Durrës civic song Qemal Kërtusha passed away at the age of 90.
Qemal Kërtusha was born on October 27, 1931 and received the title “Merited Artist” in 1968, for his great artistic and human values.
He was quickly involved in the amateur artistic movement of the city since 1946. Later, he became a participant of the Albanian Philharmonic in Tirana and the army ensemble.
After graduating from high school in his hometown, in the period 1951-1953 he studied canto with the People’s Artist Marie Kraja. Later, he returned to his hometown and became involved as an actor in the theater “A. Moses ”.
With the creation of professional pop, he passes as a professional singer and gives performances in all scenes of the country.
With a very special voice and unlimited vocal possibilities, its range ranges from folk music, light music, romances, partisan songs, cantatas to the most difficult, opera.
In 1962 he participated in the first song festival on Radio, where he was honored with awards for all three songs; “The first child”, “Girl” and “Do not scold me”. It then goes on to win awards at seventeen festivals in a row.
In 1963 he performed and successfully performed the first recital concert with songs from light music festivals.
In 1968 he participated in the opera “Sons of Skanderbeg”.
He was the winner of gold medals in pop meetings in Tirana, Peshkopi and Shkodra. His concerts in Kosovo, Macedonia and Montenegro have been sensational, where he was warmly welcomed by our brothers of one blood.
His repertoire includes over 1000 songs sung in our scenes, or recorded on Radio Tirana. In 2008 he was awarded the title “Honorary Citizen” of Durrës.
