Congress or fair? The Socialists launched their largest political rally, with a parade of tractors, livestock, farmers and agricultural produce.
In the midst of an economic price crisis, when production costs have risen and purchasing power has dwindled, this lively overtaking in color but also in trouble, seemed the new prelude to a congress that was to bring some statutory innovations. And of course the usual debate and gossip. Among them is the resurrection of Ditmir Bushati, in the leadership of the party, after two years of strong retorts with Edi Rama at a distance. But the distance between them today was reduced.
Ditmir Bushati: Did we make mistakes and crash down the road? Of course, yes. Did we have the power to correct ourselves and did we know how to stand up? Definitely yes. These times remind me of the saying of Albert Kamya that “strength of heart, ingenuity and courage are enough to defeat fate.
Fate protects the best, but in the case of the Socialists, their fate is called the Democratic Party. Taulant Balla, who unlike the last congress, sees the top of the party from the bottom up, did not hide his criticism of this circumstance which according to him is a trap.
Taulant Balla: The opposition in Albania and here I refer to the Democratic Party is in a difficult situation. We should by no means see this desperate state of the opposition as an advantage. I suggest you see it all as a trap, where we can slip and fall inside if we were to feel comfortable and at ease because in front of us we have a crushed opponent.
Neither the country nor the government actually feel comfortable today, amid internal and external crises, from incinerators to the war in Ukraine. But the message of the majority Congress was clear: “The government manages as always to solve every problem, as with the hand of God. “And he’s the one who solves everything: from the Ukraine crisis to the price of fuel.”
Edi Rama: There is nothing more normal and natural than us going against the current of the system itself to not allow our retirees to have added headaches due to the energy bill.
But the Socialist leader’s 100-minute speech focused on the consequences of the only word that was never mentioned: incinerators.
Edi Rama: They say this tall man does not hold you, this tall man lets go. Do they say it or not? They say. This tall man does not protect his people. Listen here, I do not let anyone in this family become the target of common affairs, but not only do I not hold or defend anyone who uses the trust received from the voters, from this family and from myself to eat after back to the voters, to our political family, to me.
And then the next serious warning.
Rama: No one believes the length when he says that they made me behind my back. This is true. Who believes him? You look like a beast, 2 meters. Do not be surprised when you see me at the door of SPAK with one of those ears that I want to protect.
Here, the Socialists were divided, into those who laughed, into those who rejoiced, and into those who thought.
United not divided was the hashtag of the congress but the event was more divided than ever. The leading minister was distributed in 5 stands of this unique political fair in the country, where the government was presented under the pink lights of the socialist fanfare of a truly unique third term.
Bora Muzhaqi: I will close with that. Many thanks to the panelists and sorry for the excessive sun if you did your best… I believe that young people today have learned some new things and have also learned where to apply and where to go to become IT experts in it the future.
The only one who emerged from the scenario of the congressional media parade was the rebel Erion Brace. His speech embarrassed the agriculture panel.
Erion Braçe: How many farmers are here who have money without taking it to collectors for 5, 6 or 7 months. If it was not taxed, if the value added tax scheme was not regulated, the story of non-payment of money will continue.
Arben Pëllumbi: Please conclude that others want to talk….
Erion Braçe: I do not need praise. To be honest, I have heard so far, I accept the praise, I would like to hear some suggestions that we should take, that next year will be late, for the Socialist Party and for agriculture. Next year will be too late Ben, trust me. Here’s what you asked.
Arben Pëllumbi: Yes we are doing that, we are asking that.
Erion Braçe: Now he wants me not to talk, but that has not happened since 1990.
Like any ruling party congress, this one was marked by interest, who is falling, who is rising and who is continuing on his path.
Erion Veliaj: The plan is to continue to serve the city to complete the project and vision for Tirana. The good of the law allows you three terms, so I would like to complete this mission and then leave it to someone else who can take it even higher.
The Socialist Congress took place a few meters away from the office of the outgoing president, Ilir Meta. The majority failed to oust its future enemy in politics, but the Socialists did not even hide in Congress what they thought of it.
Unsurprisingly, the president even today forgot his duty, making a special gift to the socialist congress.
Ilir Meta: I will soon set up a Transparency Committee for the Incinerator affair as president. The mafia has done nothing more in Sicily than here. An accountability tour will be launched soon.
The situation in which this congress convened is paradoxical. The Socialist Party comes from another electoral victory, like the one of March 6, but also with another deputy in handcuffs for the incinerators affair. With a party leader seeking a fourth term, but also a prime minister separating himself from the corruption of his ministers. It seems as long as there is a weak opposition, the socialist camp will experiment with this unique dualism of a government that wins and loses, a game in which there are no opponents. How long is a game and it does not return, as a socialist leader warned, to a dangerous trap where everyone falls.
