A recent report says carbon monoxide poisoning has been identified as the cause of death of three Americans found dead in the Sandals resort in the Bahamas, but family members have requested a second independent autopsy.
The report came after the toxicology tests of the couple from Tennessee, Michael Phillips, 68, and Robbie Phillips, 65, and Florida resident Vincent Chiarella, 64, writes the network Nassau Guardian.
Chiarella’s wife, Donnis, had been hospitalized for some time but managed to recover.
The coroner said the cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning, without giving further details.
The three Americans died in mysterious circumstances at the Exuma Island resort on May 6, while staying in separate villas.
The victims were found unconscious in their rooms after seeking medical help the night before.
There has been widespread speculation about the cause of death, including investigations into the food served. Several other resort vacationers had complained that there was a strong smell of insecticides.
The families of the victims are already seeking a second independent autopsy, in addition to that of Bahamas forensics.
Authorities said the victims had no signs of trauma to the body and a doctor had pronounced them dead at the scene. Authorities had reported that a couple among the victims showed signs of bodily convulsions but no concussion trauma.
