Tensions with Russia and the consequences they may have on energy supply or even its cost are slowly becoming a geostrategic priority.
In Washington, the meeting of the EU-US Joint Energy Council with representatives of the Biden administration and that of the European bloc takes place.
Present at the meeting will be US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, US Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson and representatives of others from both sides. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the purpose of the meeting was to co-operate to reduce Russia’s dependence on Europe for energy supplies.
The topic of discussion is the security of energy supply of the Western Balkans and the energy integration of the region with the EU will be the topic of discussion at the EU-US Council meeting. In the draft statement that is expected to be approved, a part is also occupied by the part for the Western Balkans.
““The Council reiterates the importance of building a competitive, transparent and integrated energy system in the Western Balkans and associated markets, regulatory reforms in line with enlargement policy and the obligations of the Energy Community Treaty.”it is said in the draft-statement.
