Two people were shot dead and 21 others were injured in several shootings at a nightclub and on a nearby street in the center of the Norwegian capital, Oslo, police said.
The shooting is being investigated as a terrorist act. The assailant started firing at midnight in three different locations, including a gay bar.
The suspect was arrested and his two weapons were confiscated. In addition to the gay bar, shootings have also been heard at and near a jazz music club.
The annual Pride Parade was scheduled to take place on Saturday in Oslo, but the event was canceled, according to police instructions.
The Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Stoere, called the attack “terrible and shocking to innocent people”. The suspect is a person known to the security services in Norway.
