The boycott of lawyers has paralyzed the activity of the first and second instance court in Durrës, postponing for another time all the issues of the trial on the merits.
The Durrës Chamber of Advocates has reacted to the new court map that does not take into account the situation and its consequences for stakeholders, causing high costs and numerous delays in the adjudication of court cases.
According to the DHAD, this court map is simply a solution to the lack of judges in the justice system, caused by vetting, while the only change the map has undergone is related to a minority.
“The HJC decided to approve the new court map only with a change related to the Saranda court. None of our proposals have been considered and in our network this change has been linked as a change related to the Greek community than to the Albanian one of lawyers. The appeal of Durrës must stand and the court must be active “- said the President of DHAD, Lorval Petani
The government declares an increase in investments, but reduces the services in Durrës and this is considered arbitrary by the Chamber of Advocates.
Lawyers state that the strike will escalate as the new court map primarily affects many citizens and businesses, while Durrës is a district with many conflicts.
“This strike will escalate if our demands are not taken into account. The Court of Appeals covers 7 districts and should function. There is a large load and it had to be the last to melt. We will go back to 1995 tha – said Shiponja Meta.
The 244 lawyers, members of the Durrës Chamber, have joined the national boycott of the trials as of today, while the government is expected to react to this proposal of the HJC to decide on the next steps of the reaction.
