A lawyer accused of being a “Ukrainian maniac of killing women”, who dismembered the woman he was going to marry and kept her heart and genitals in the refrigerator, was arrested yesterday in Ukraine, the British Daily Mail wrote.
Western media added that after a ‘some lull’ in the news of the war, the black chronicle in Ukraine returned to the macabre murders that had been heard from the country before.
Lawyer Petr Begun, a former crime investigator, had strangled his fiancee Olha Davydenko, before dismembering her body and aging some of the parts.
The 37-year-old previously participated in a dating TV program called “Blind Marriage” playing a “potential husband” in a 2019 episode.
The victim of his murder is a woman he had known earlier this year.
Local police chief Andrei Nebytov said the killer had cut out his girlfriend’s heart, kidneys and sexual organs, according to local media.
The reports said that “the wartime crime was a story of macabre love, cynical feelings and attempts to hide the traces of the crime” in the Kiev region.
The killer faces charges of hostage-taking, murder and weapons possession, and could be jailed for up to 15 years.
Kyiv regional police said: “The man explained that after a conflict between him and the woman, he had strangled her and to hide the traces of the crime, he dismembered her body and hid the remains.”
When the killer took part in the TV dating program, he presented himself as: “Friendly, smiling, active, intelligent, improvising, optimistic and with a sense of humor.”
Begun added: “I believe that I am the perfect husband, I have my own law firm that deals with civil, criminal and domestic matters. I also study self-development”.
