Ukrainian Yaroslava Mahuchikh won the emotional gold medal in the high jump at the World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
It took the 20-year-old three days to reach the Serbian capital from Ukraine.
The crowd cheered as she held up her country’s flag.
“It’s a very important thing for my country.” said Mahuchikh for BBC Sport.
“For me, coming here was difficult, three days by car and jumping here was very difficult psychologically because my heart remains in my place. “It is very difficult, but I think I have done very well for my country, because I defend my country on the track.”she said.
