Authorities are negotiating with a male person who allegedly took several people hostage at a synagogue in Colleyville, Texas. The incident happened during a religious service on Saturday which was being broadcast live, according to the local newspaper Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
The police department wrote on Twitter earlier Saturday that it was conducting special forces (SWAT) operations in the area where the Beth Israel Congregation is located and said all nearby residents were being evacuated.
Authorities did not report any injuries inside the building, according to the Dallas Morning News television. “Colleyville police representatives (Dara Nelson) said negotiators have contacted a person inside the synagogue who they believe is the person suspected of taking several people hostage,” the Dallas Morning News reported.
The person was heard making a conversation, which appeared to be a phone call during a live broadcast of the Jewish synagogue Shabbat service. The live broadcast was interrupted around 15:00 Washington local time. The Beth Israel Congregation was founded in 1999.
