Omicron, the variant of the coronavirus that has worried many countries around the world, has not yet appeared in Kosovo. However, measures are being taken to conduct tests in the NIPHK to confirm this variant.
This is what the NIPHK spokeswoman, Era Pireva, stated for Telegraf, who has announced that the tests that detect the Omicron variant are expected to arrive in Kosovo today.
“The Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 can also be detected by RT PCR test that specifically targets any of the S protein mutations of SARS-CoV-2. RT PCR such kits ordered by NIPHK are expected to arrive at Prishtina Airport on 23.12.2021 and it depends on the customs clearance procedures how soon they will arrive at NIPHK, so the confirmation of the Omicron variant of SARS will be done very soon. CoV-2 in NIPHK ”, said Pireva.
Meanwhile, NIPHK is sending positive samples to Germany to confirm the presence of the Omicron variant. Kosovo is still waiting for these results.
