Nine convicts for the police uniforms tender have appealed the decision of the Court of First Instance.
The case has already been registered with the Special Court of Appeal. The first hearing is expected to take place on April 21 and the file will be reviewed by Judge Ingerta Hysi.
It is learned that the decision was appealed only by the defendants, while SPAK did not appeal the decision of December 30.
Recall that on the penultimate day of 2021 the anti-corruption court sentenced to 1 year in prison and 5 years deprivation of the right to exercise public functions. The director of the Ministry of Interior, Edlira Naqellari, and the citizens, Flutura Çekrezi, Ani Omuri, Anisa Bogdani, Fatmir Demneri, Mariglen Buzali and Kreshnik Bejka, Gëzim Mingaj and Aurora Mulla were convicted for this case.
The defendants in this case were tried with a shortened trial, benefiting from a 1/3 reduction of the sentence. Interior Ministry officials and former officials were arrested last year following an operation led by the SPAK over abuses for the 2020 police uniform tender, valued at 25m euros.
According to SPAK, in cooperation with each other and with the director of the Centralized Procurement Agency, Edlira Naqellari have violated the rules of public procurement, equality in tenders and have caused economic damage to the state.
The investigation began after a report filed with the SPAK by parliamentary opposition MPs about a year ago, alleging that employees of the Procurement Agency at the Interior Ministry created the conditions to determine the winner of the 25m-euro tender.
