On December 27, talks are expected to resume to revive the nuclear deal that Iran signed with world powers in 2015.
European Union negotiator Enrique Mora has announced the resumption of talks through a post on the social network, Twitter.
“Talks in Vienna will resume on Monday. “The commission will discuss the agreement and determine the way forward,” said Mora, who is leading the talks.
The talks have been marked by little progress since they began in November, after five months of blockade.
In that period Iran elected the new president, Ebrahim Raisi.
Diplomats from the parties that are still part of the agreement – China, Britain, France, Germany and Russia – are taking part in direct talks with Iran.
The United States has been part of these talks indirectly, after withdrawing from the agreement in 2018.
An EU statement said participants would “continue discussions on the possible return of the US to the agreement and ensure full implementation of the document”.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has said that European negotiators have not introduced “new practical initiatives” and have not been constructive in the last round.
The nuclear deal envisions lifting sanctions on Iran in exchange for limiting nuclear activity.
But when the United States pulled out of the deal in 2018, it reinstated sanctions on Tehran.
Iran, which claims its nuclear program is for civilian purposes only, has gradually evaded the terms of the agreement and enriched uranium beyond permissible levels.rel
