Reports from Kabul and its neighboring provinces in Afghanistan say Taliban officials have launched a door-to-door campaign to collect and seize weapons and “other government-linked property.”
A press release from IEA Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said that in order to prevent the continuation of the arbitrary cleansing campaign, “it is better for people to show up to hand over all government property.
“The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan urges all Afghans to hand over their weapons, government property and other illegal objects, as well as to provide information on the kidnappers before we come to look for the objects in their homes. “We urge people to cooperate with the government by voluntarily surrendering their weapons,” the statement said.
Authorities acknowledged that operations would end soon if the facilities were handed over voluntarily.
The development comes as international organizations condemned the campaign accusing the Taliban of intimidating families and violating people’s privacy, but authorities defended the actions saying the operations had borne fruit.
