The Chairwoman of the Integration Council, Jorida Tabaku, met today with the Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi.
At the center of the discussion was Albania’s progress towards membership in the European Union. Ms. Tabaku expressed concern that the government is unprepared for the start of negotiations, as structures are still lacking.
She said that the commission she leads has summoned all the structures involved in this process, as there is a lack of periodic reporting by them.
During the meeting, Ms. Tabaku said that although one of the conditions to be met, corruption remains a problem, already widespread in every link of the state. She cited the recent State Department report as an indication of a lack of fight against corruption.
At the end of the meeting, Ms. Tabaku said that the opposition is in support of Albania’s membership and why we have not met the conditions and that the DP demands the development of the First Intergovernmental Conference as soon as possible.
