This space of 17 hectares was requested by the company “Sunny Hill” for holding the largest music festival in Kosovo, “Sunny Hill Festival”.
The Municipality of Prishtina, among many objections, approved this request and the land was given to the company for use for 99 years. Delays in approval by the Ministry of Local Government Administration, however, caused the festival to be relocated.
The founder and organizer of the Sunny Hill festival, Dukagjin Lipa, in a long letter informed the heads of institutions that this year the festival will not be held in Pristina. And with this letter he also left guilty, precisely these institutions for the administrative delay for the approval of the Municipal Assembly of Prishtina for the use of this space in Bërnica i Poshtme for the festival. According to Lipa, this delay makes it impossible to make the necessary preparations for this year’s festival, so he moved to Tirana.
The contract provides for the conversion of this space into a park and the return to ownership of the municipality if the festival was not held. But, Vetëvendosje Movement did not fully agree with this contract.
According to the Ministry of Local Government, the Municipality of Prishtina has been asked for additional documentation on the duration of the use and the part of the plot that has the status of agricultural land as well as the investment plan and the bank turnover of the company. He also adds that this decision is still under consideration.
However, this irritated many of the political leaders in the country. The mayor of Prishtina, Perparim Rama, blames the Government for leaving Sunny Hill from Prishtina and accuses that the executive has tried to change the will of the Municipal Assembly of Prishtina.
Meanwhile, the rapporteur for Kosovo in the European Parliament, Viola Von Cramon, calls the government’s inability to hold the festival in Pristina a mistake.
Besnik Tahiri, AAK MP calls the Government “Turtle” since in the absence of proper work dynamics failed to provide a place for the festival. Meanwhile, the chairman of PDK, Memli Krasniqi says that the Kurti Government and the Vetëvendosje Movement expelled “Sunny Hill” from Kosovo. While from the presidency they say that they fought to keep Sunny Hill in Prishtina.
This is the third edition of the “Sunny Hill” festival. During the last two editions the festival was organized in the Park “Gërmia” in Prishtina and was attended by singers of the world stage along with local ones.
