The feature film “Vera andrron detin”, directed by Kaltrina Krasniqi, has won the Golden Sun Award for the best film at the 21st edition of the CINEDAYS European Film Festival, held from July 7 to 14, 2022 , in Skopje, North Macedonia.
During the award ceremony, the jury described “Vera dreams of the sea” as a film that powerfully portrays the resilience of women surrounded by the patriarchal spirit.
“In a patriarchal society whose foundations were built on the sacrifices of countless, silent and invisible women throughout history, it is cathartic to witness the humanity and resilience of women today who are reclaiming what has always been given to them.”
With its multi-layered portrayal of human nature, stunning cinematography and acting that addresses the complexities of the female gender across generations, this film reveals a powerful new voice from a director who sees strength in quiet figures. Therefore, the Golden Sun award for the best film goes to “Vera andrron detin”, by Kaltrina Krasniqi”, stated the jury of CINEDAYS.
The film in question is an intimate but also universal portrait of a woman who fights a harsh reality of gender inequality, deeply rooted in society even today.
“Summer dreams of the sea” premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September of the previous year, and in addition to other awards at various festivals, it also won the Grand Prix at the Tokyo International Film Festival.
