A group of brave teenagers have made the vital intervention to stop a little girl from jumping off the bridge, in a growing suicide trend in TikTok network videos, popular with children and teenagers.
The youths were crossing the bridge in the town of Kropotkin in the Russian region of Krasnodar Krai when they spotted the girl’s suicide attempt.
In some recorded footage, the teenager in sportswear is seen looking down at the bridge, being held on her rails, before the group approaches.
She then crosses one leg on the outside of the handrail, before the teens come to her aid.
The young men grab her by the legs and then pull her to the safety side as she falls tearfully into their arms. Then the police come on the scene.
One of the teenagers, Alexander, told local media: “When we approached about five meters away from her, my friend saw that the girl got up on the railing and got ready to jump. “I turned and ran towards her, grabbing her by the leg.”
Authorities say the suicide attempt was inspired by a horrific trend on the TikTok network, where new users are encouraged to kill themselves with sophisticated psychological manipulation techniques.
Some of these videos have been removed from the network after being viewed hundreds of thousands of times by users, Russian media report.
Russian prosecutor Alexander Bastrykin has demanded censorship of all content promoting murderous challenges.
TikTok is committed to imposing restrictions on users under the age of 16 and stopping them from being seduced by older users.
