Pisces can do math just like humans, a new scientific study has found.
It was initially thought that they could err on the side of arithmetic tests but it was soon learned that they could calculate sums from one to five.
Initially they were trained to learn the symbols represented by the subtraction of one or two units.
For example if they were shown three blue shapes they would find the reward in the form of food if they swam in the gate displaying the four shapes.
Fish did this correctly in 69 to 94 percent of cases.
But math skills have already been spotted in other species such as gorillas, monkeys, dolphins, elephants, birds and salamanders, as well as in less studied cases of bees and spiders.
Recent tests were performed on river rana fish by the University of Bonn, in Germany.
Dr Vera Schluessel told Scientific Reports: “It helps them identify individual fish, perhaps by counting their points or lines.”
It now remains in the hands of the reader than to believe in theory.
