Scientists have finally confirmed the link between man-made climate change and some extreme weather events, in a new study
Research shows that human activities have a direct effect on some types of extreme weather including heat waves and storm showers.
The heat wave currently affecting Europe, for example, is likely to be one to three degrees hotter due to climate change.
“I think we can say with great confidence that every heat wave that occurs today has become more intense and more likely due to climate change.” says climate scientist Dr Friederike Otto, who co-authored the study.
The study also warns that large data gaps from many areas of the world still hide the full extent of the damage of climate change, as heat waves are becoming up to 10 times more likely in some areas.
