A Spanish twin has given birth with a 1-in-80,000 chance known as a “mermaid” birth inside the amniotic sac, local doctors announced today.
The amniotic sac of the baby ruptures immediately after the birth waters of the mother, but it seems that in this case it happened only for one of the twins.
Newborns came to life by caesarean section on Wednesday in the city of Valencia, reports the British Mirror .
The rare event is otherwise known as veil birth or “en caul”.
“This is the first caesarean birth ‘in the veil’ and we were very excited, at the moment we will not tell anything to the students even though I am very excited,” wrote Dr. Ana Teijelo on Twitter.
She also shared photos of the twins on social media, which she said were “certainly with parental permission.”
