The Spanish government and the two main unions in the country, signed an agreement to set the minimum wage at 1 thousand euros per month, starting this year.
The two main associations of local entrepreneurs opposed this decision, arguing that this is not the time to increase the minimum wage, as the economic situation in the country is unstable, especially in the agriculture and tourism sector.
Confirming the agreement, the Spanish Minister of Labor spoke of a very important result for the country and stressed that the target is a society that is not based on low wages. In the European Union, 21 countries have a national minimum wage. Luxembourg is the first country in the EU in terms of minimum wage of more than 2 thousand euros.
The country is followed by Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and France. Italy is among the six EU countries that do not have a fixed minimum wage along with Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Austria and Cyprus.
