The number of coronavirus infections in Spain since the beginning of the pandemic has risen to 8,093,036.
In the last 24 hours, 65,937 new cases have been registered, in the country with 47 million inhabitants, the Ministry of Health announced today. The seven-day incidence rate of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants increased from 1,482.63 to 1,654.91.
However, despite the high number of cases caused by the dominant Omicron variant, there has been no overcrowding in hospitals in recent days. According to the report, 14 percent of all hospital beds were occupied by patients with Covid-19, while the figure for intensive care unit beds was 23.62 percent, compared to 22.06 percent a week earlier.
Experts say this is due to the relatively high rate of vaccination in Spain. According to official data, 84.92 percent of the population has been vaccinated with at least one dose, 80.46 percent with both vaccines or one from Johnson & Johnson, where basic immunization requires only one vaccination and 35.48 percent have completed the dose reinforcing.
