It’s time for the European Union to publicly announce what sanctions it plans to impose on Russia in the event of an invasion of Ukraine, said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, a move that clearly shows that Kiev is losing patience with Brussels’ moves.
“Show the sanctions to the Russians, make them known to everyone, so that the Russians know what awaits them in case of aggression,” he said. We have heard all along how severe these sanctions will be. “Now is the time for details, because otherwise, Moscow will think you are playing with the bluff,” Kuleba added.
The UK has said it will impose new laws to expand the range of sanctions it could impose on Russia and Kremlin-linked individuals in a bid to persuade Moscow not to attempt an attack on Ukraine. EU leaders agreed in December to impose more economic sanctions on Moscow in the event of an invasion.
The remarks of the Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine come at a time when Russia continues to stockpile 100 thousand and military equipment on the border with Ukraine. Although Moscow has denied its intention to invade the neighboring country, the Biden administration has been working over the past few weeks to strengthen precautionary measures against a possible invasion.
