Slovenia will suspend coal-fired power generation by 2033 at the latest, the Slovenian government announced today.
Such a solution envisages the National Strategy for coal mining and restructuring of the two provinces in which active coal mining still functions as an important economic activity, reports Hina.
The adoption of the strategy means that the mentioned regions can and will start using the funds from the fund for fair energy transformation, under which Slovenia will receive almost 250 million euros, according to the government.
Slovenia provides one-third of the electricity generation from the Shoshtanj power plant, which uses coal to generate electricity, while the remaining two-thirds is provided mainly by hydropower plants and the Krsko power plant.
