3,000 Russian Sputnik V vaccines have arrived in northern Macedonia out of about 200,000 ordered by Russia to vaccinate the population for coronavirus protection.
The Minister of Health, Venko Filipce, who together with the Russian Ambassador Sergey Bazdnik, went out to wait for the vaccines at the Skopje International Airport, said that these doses will be used for the elderly, the chronically ill and other categories, while emphasizing that the vaccine is safe. He announced that in the coming days talks will continue to provide other doses, in order to continue the immunization of the population, based on the national immunization plan.
“The vaccine is safe and effective. We are ready to help the Macedonian people with whom we share common values. “We are ready to expand cooperation in other areas,” said Russian Ambassador to Skopje Sergey Bazdnikin.
So far, only 8,000 doses of vaccines from the American company Pfizer have arrived in northern Macedonia, also as a donation from Serbia. The opposition has criticized the government for failing to provide vaccines and tackling the pandemic, which according to VMRO-DPMNE is evidenced by the high number of deaths and rising cases of the virus.
