Top Story tonight traveled to New York, where the day before, a small piece got an Albanian name.
In the Bronx, the capital of New York Albanians, a boulevard was renamed. A meaningful name for all of us, which will already make sense for Americans, who will have it in their address book.
“Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu” Boulevard in the center of the Bronx, where the Italians once lived, but today flourish and operate over 600 businesses of honest Albanians, who have gathered to respect Albanians, their work and taxes.
It was attended by important American policy leaders, such as Chuck Shumer, the majority speaker in the US Senate, and the newly elected mayor, Eric Adams, who sees Albanians as his main supporters in the victory a few months ago.
The mayor of New York, Eric Adams, said that the Albanian community there represents the “New Yorkers” tireless workers, who fight every day for a better life. He said they were “America’s good”.
Eric Adams: This is a wonderful community. As I walk around the city, I talk about good New Yorkers. For those who wake up every day with energy and work more than 30-40 hours a day in the hope of a better life. These are not the ones who shoot with guns, but they are the victims of these guns. They are not the ones who go to the shops and steal whatever they want, but they have opened new shops themselves and hired people there helping the local economy and hoping to be proud of these people. I’m talking about good New Yorkers. The good people of this city who are often forgotten. They do not think about how to oppose the police but how to support it. I am talking about a good New Yorker and I am talking about the Albanian community !! You represent good New Yorkers, tireless, dedicated and devoted workers who believe in public safety and the quality of life we deserve as a city. This street name ‘Gjergj Kastriot Skënderbeu’, where everyone who will pass through it, will raise their head and see the name, will show what you consider a leader, a hero, he is the name we are putting this way. It is so meaningful to know and respect him in a city that you have made as big as it is. I do not consider you merely a citizen, but like my brothers and sisters.
