After the signing of 5 agreements within the “Open Balkan”, the Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama, the Serbian President Aleksandar Vuçi dhe and the Prime Minister of Northern Macedonia, Zoran Zaev, have appeared at a press conference.
Zaev thanked Prime Minister Rama and the Albanian government for the reception, saying that it feels like home. Among other things, he spoke about the agreements that were signed today, saying that today they have concrete steps to present to the citizens and once ratified, they will have the opportunity to work and move freely in these three countries.
Zaev: I want to thank Edin, the Albanian people and the Albanian government. We all feel at home here, whether in Albania, Macedonia or Belgrade.
Since the beginning of the initiative, my colleagues and I have highlighted the fact that the Open Balkans is an authentic process that has been created by Albania, Serbia, Northern Macedonia but also for other countries. All countries in the region have an open invitation to join. We encourage them to join.
We seek input and call for the Open Balkans initiative to bring benefits to our citizens through a common market. Today, in front of the citizens of our countries, we present concrete steps. We have signed the agreement for the interconnection of electronic identification schemes as well as the agreement for the conditions of free access. In these agreements we have given the opportunity to the citizens to have access to electronic services through the creation of electronic identification within the Open Balkans. Whenever these agreements are ratified, these citizens will have the opportunity to work and move freely in these three countries.
This marks further steps for the Europeanization of our countries because we are Europe. When Vucic and Rama, together with me, outlined the vision of the Open Balkans, we agreed not to allow the prevalence of Euroscepticism due to the failure of European policies. It is a contribution that brings us to only one country, closer to the EU itself. When the EU fails, we have an obligation to take initiatives that Europeanize the region.
