Terrified beachgoers were stranded at a popular tourist spot in Australia as a huge shark came and went along the bay shores waiting for someone to enter the water to attack it.
A group of young people were enjoying the sun and water on the massive cliffs of ‘Twilight Beach’ in Esperance, southwest Australia.
Swimmers were about to jump into the water from the smooth rock about 50 meters off shore, when in the crystal clear waters they saw the alarming silhouette of the animal below the surface.
A large white shark rolled around the cliff, leaving beachgoers trapped.
Some of the bravest swimmers managed to swim to shore when the beast was far enough away, while two of them had to be rescued by emergency naval teams.
Rescue team member Dane Holdman told the network Daily Mail“I personally would not have entered the water, just for the fact that there is a shark probably very hungry, and for the other fact that help was coming.”
During the incident, an audible alarm for the shark was issued which prompted everyone present to get out of the water.
There have been three shark deaths in the area since 2017.
In October 2020, surfer Andrew Sharpe was killed here in a suspected shark attack which led to the construction of three shark watchtowers.
Even native Gary Johnson lost his life in a shark attack in January 2020.
The 57-year-old was taking a bath with his wife when he was attacked. The woman had tried to save him by hitting the shark with the recording camera but Johnson lost his life.
A new net barrier has recently been installed off the beach to allay beachgoers’ fears of sharks.
