12 dead bodies were discovered this Wednesday near a border area between Turkey and Greece.
The news was published by Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu on Twitter. He writes that the dead bodies are thought to belong to a group of 22 immigrants who returned to Turkey by Greek border guards.
Soylu said the victims were found near the Ipsala border crossing between Turkey and Greece, stressing that authorities suspect their deaths were due to low temperatures, while the dead bodies, he said, were “naked” and barefoot. .
He said border guards initially forced migrants to remove their shoes and sweatshirts and then returned them.
“This is barbarism. 12 migrants are found frozen in the middle of the cold without shoes and thick clothes. The EU is without a solution“, He writes on Twitter.

The minister did not want to give further details, but accused the Greek border guards of “cruel” behavior and the European Union for an incomprehensible tolerance towards Greece.
Turkey has long accused neighboring Greece of illegally pushing migrants seeking to enter Europe. But the latter has always denied the allegations.
Turkey is a major crossing point for migrants from the Middle East, Asia and Africa seeking a better life in European Union countries.
Most migrants from these countries try to cross into Greece either by land or by sea.
