The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti stated that for the holding of parliamentary and presidential elections of Serbia in Kosovo, there must be an agreement between the Republic of Kosovo and that of Serbia.
According to a government statement, Kurti made the remarks during a virtual meeting with Kosovo’s ambassadors and heads of diplomatic and consular missions.
He told the ambassadors and diplomatic representatives that “we do not want to deny the right to vote to the citizens of our Republic who have dual citizenship, but at the same time we can not act contrary to the legality and constitutionality of the country.” He is said to be in constant contact with representatives of Quint countries in Kosovo, the United States, Great Britain, Italy, Germany and France.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated in a pre-election activity that “the Kurti government asks Serbia to recognize Kosovo’s independence, in order to allow elections”, which will be held on April 3. Serbian authorities have warned of holding a meeting of the National Security Council to decide “on the next steps”. The head of the Office for Kosovo in the Serbian government, Petar Petkovic, claims that the Kosovo authorities want to prevent Kosovo Serbs from voting on April 3rd.
Opposition members of the Kosovo Assembly have called on the government to be careful in preserving the country’s sovereignty in any decision it may make regarding the holding of Serbian elections in Kosovo.
