The US insists that Russia stop the war in Ukraine, as the conflict launched in late February continues to intensify.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin spoke today with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu and stressed the need for both sides to surrender their weapons.
He also reiterated the importance of maintaining lines of communication, according to the Pentagon.
It was the first time Austin had spoken to Shoigu since Feb. 18, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said in a statement.
