The son of a regional prime minister has pushed his girlfriend to his death through a fourth-floor window at a well-known Russian university of espionage and diplomacy.
Medzhidov killed the “brilliant student” Tomiris Baysafa, 21, pushing him from 15 meters to his death, it was said in the trial of the case.
He was sentenced to 13 years in a colony of inmates with harsh labor regime.
The incident had occurred in April 2018 when the 21-year-old suffered multiple fractures after falling and died a few weeks later in hospital.
The verdict came after a widespread justice campaign led by the girl’s mother, who protested against the lack of accountability for the fact that a year ago Medzhidov was set free for the crime.
The grieving mother of the victim, Zhanna Akhmetova, 42, complained that for some time her daughter had been transformed into an “absolutely mentally and emotionally ill person”.
She had appealed for justice from the president of Russia, and that of her region of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
