Three employees of the Port of Durrës were arrested during the hours of tonight for the case of 119 kilograms of cocaine seized in this port on December 30 of the year we left behind.
They have been identified as:
Lavdosh Zerba, 58 years old, resident in Durrës as a customs agent.
Julian Merhori, 40 years old, resident of Durrës. Merhori performed the actions on behalf of Lavdoshi.
Bujar Ajdin Qyrku, 55 years old, resident of Kombinat Tirana, acting employee of AKU.
Sources close to the investigation team told Top Channel journalist Anila Hoxha that the document showing that 20 tons of bananas entered on December 25 was signed before the cargo arrived at the port.
On the evening of December 30, police received information that several as yet unidentified persons had stopped in Romanat, Durrës, a truck transporting a container loaded with bananas from the port to a warehouse in Vaqarr.
During a search of his home, police found and seized 119 kilograms of cocaine suspected of coming from Ecuador.
According to the “blues”, the container has been transited to a port in Italy, where the Italian law enforcement authorities have found the lack of lead and for this reason they have decided to exercise control by identifying a lack of some boxes of bananas.
After identifying this absence, the Italian police decided to re-seal the container, accompanying it with a relevant report.
Afterwards, this container arrived at the port of Durrës and after the customs clearance and control operations on the scanner, it was found clean and left the port, with the destination of the firm’s warehouses on the outskirts of the city of Tirana.
Only a few kilometers were enough, where along the national road Durrës-Tirana, in the place called Romanat, the truck transporting the container was stopped by some still unidentified persons, who for several minutes exercised control over the truck and the container with bananas, was then quickly removed after his control.
Such an event has worried the representatives of the banana importing firm who had called the State Police.
The scheme of transporting drugs with bananas from Latin American countries to Albania has been repeated several times in recent years where large quantities of cocaine have been seized. Cocaine was seized five times only in the containers of the company “Alba Exotic Fruit”.
