The Secretary General of the World Customs Organization, Kunio Mikyriya and Dashgin Aliyev, the Director of Regional Development for the Europe Region at the WCO paid a two-day official visit to Albania.
The General Director of the Albanian Customs, Genti Gazheli, after the meeting said that the approximation of the legislation with that of the EU, has made in recent years ADSH to significantly improve the service to citizens and business.
““Online declaration is now a reality and ‘Electronic Signature’ is an essential element that precedes the extensive and very important process of ‘paperless declaration at customs’,” said Gazheli, emphasizing that the simplification of procedures and documentation for issuing permits and licenses for citizens and businesses has minimized the costs associated with the bureaucracy of state structures, not only in financial terms, but also in time”.
During the two challenging years due to the Covid 19 pandemic, said Gazheli, the Customs Directorate has been in the service of 24/7 business, to facilitate exports and imports, making maximum efforts in its control functions, providing treatment of equality, protection of fair competition and facilitation of foreign trade.
While the Head of OBD, Mikyria, assessed that the Albanian Customs has made progress in recent years in terms of international and EU standards, in improving and introducing new technologies and in the development of human resources.
“It is important to provide services based on business trust. Therefore, I noticed this progress during my visit, where unlike my visit 10 years ago, I feel that the Albanian economy is more promising in terms of European integration, in terms of attracting people and investment, but also attracting tourists. I see a great potential for the further development of Albania, therefore the continuous improvement of public institutions, such as Customs is important to maintain this positive and promising trend.“, Said Mikyria.
