German Chancellor Olaf Scholz began his visit to the Western Balkans in Kosovo. Scholz came to Pristina with a clear message regarding the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
“It is clear that the agreement must finally resolve the issue of recognition of Kosovo, because it is unimaginable that two countries that do not know each other become members of the EU. “I ask both sides today for a commitment to dialogue.” said Olaf Scholz.
Chancellor Scholz from Pristina also rebuked Serbia for its reluctance to sanction Russia after the invasion of Ukraine, saying that all those aspiring to join the EU should be in line with it.
However, the German chancellor was not clear whether the country he leads also supports the “Open Balkans”.
“As for the ‘Open Balkans’, we must be clear that we give high priority to the common regional market which we think should progress and the issues can be realized and moved forward.” tha Scholz.
Scholz, among other things, said that he is also committed to visa liberalization for Kosovo, since the conditions are met. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti said that the country is on the Euro-Atlantic path.
“We have already applied to the Council of Europe this year, we plan to apply for the status of candidate country for membership in the European Union and we ask for everyone’s support”, said Albin Kurti.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will also visit the German military camp in Kosovo and then travel to Belgrade to continue his visit.
