The American intelligence community officially blamed Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman on Friday for the horrific murder of the Washington Post columnist.
The report, compiled by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the Directorate of National Intelligence (DNI) and other intelligence organizations, concluded that Salman approved of Khashoggi’s assassination at the Consulate General of Saudi Arabia in Istanbul in October. 2018.
DNI published a report prepared in 2018, but the Donald Trump administration did not make it public.
Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed at the Saudi consulate complex in Istanbul on October 2, 2018, where he went to a meeting that day to submit the necessary personal documents for the marriage.
After several days of denial, Saudi authorities admitted that Khashoggi had been killed, and then a court in Saudi Arabia sentenced five defendants to death. Three other defendants received prison sentences totaling 24 years. Prince Bin Salman’s close associates have been acquitted of all charges.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) claims in a 101-page report that Khashoggi’s assassination was an act deliberately committed by Saudi Arabia. The report says there is valuable evidence of the need to investigate the involvement of senior Saudi officials in the assassinations, including Prince Bin Salman.
The CIA also concluded that Bin Salman had ordered Khashoggi’s assassination, but Trump defended Bin Salman from the consequences of the act and blocked the sending of intelligence reports to members of the US Congress.
