Saranda is living these July days the beginning of the peak tourist season for this year.
The public beaches that start from the port and end on the exit road to Ksamil are waiting for vacationers from Albania and Europe.
“I am here as part of a group of 25 people from Romania. We visited Butrint yesterday, walked in Saranda, enjoyed the food. Now I’m enjoying some independent time from the group by the sea. Everything good, accommodation, food, people. Regarding the prices, I can say that it is cheaper than in Romania. Maize is a popular product I believe in both countries. Here I bought it for 1 Euro. I would buy it there for at least 2 or 3 Euros”, said Nicole from Romania.
“I am with a group of friends in Saranda. The city is exceeding all expectations. So far we have enjoyed everything, the public beach, the interaction with people, the fast food on the street and the outdoor activities. It is certain that we will come back again.” said Anna from Germany.
The new Kardhiq-Delvinë road that opened only this early July shortened the journey from Tirana to Saranda by at least 40 minutes. This has increased interest in visiting the south, however, tour operators talk about completely different customer profiles compared to previous years.
The port of Saranda is recording weekly calls from cruise ships that have booked arrivals until late autumn. Saranda, Ksamil and the surrounding areas have increased accommodation capacity compared to before the pandemic by at least 20% according to the municipality’s Tourism Directorate.
The peculiarity of this summer’s tourism in Saranda is related to a customer profile that has more interests and for the first time there are reservations that are expected to last the season until October, a trend of autumn vacations with much higher standards.
A good tourist offer for this category of visitors could be a solution to fade seasonality for the following years as well.
