MP Ervin Salianji has also joined the ranks of Democrats who are in favor of removing Lulzim Basha from the chair of the DP leader.
He describes the result of the March 6 elections as catastrophic for the Democratic Party, emphasizing that the biggest responsibility lies with the party chairman.
Salianji says that he was part of the Democrats who fought for Lulzim Basha to be the chairman of the Democratic Party, thinking it as the right way for the DP to be in power.
“Lulzim Basha has lost support”, writes Salinanji through the post, adding that he should take a step back and create the possibility for the DP to hold elections.
Full post:
The result of the March 6 election was disastrous for the Democratic Party. The DPA candidates in 6 municipalities were dignified democrats, they together with the democrats made every effort, but the popular spirit was a clear message to every democrat. The opposition was hurt and received less than half of the votes it garnered on April 25, the voter boycott showed a crisis of confidence in the opposition. Everyone has a responsibility for this situation, the main responsibility lies with the party chairman.
Personally I have fought fierce battles risking everything, I have fought hard to help the Democratic Party come to power. I fought for Lulzim Basha to be the chairman of the Democratic Party because I thought it was the right way for the DPA to come to power!
Today I can not close my eyes or hide, we must read the reality taking every responsibility, but the main responsibility falls on the party chairman! Lulzim Basha has lost his support, unfortunately as party chairman it is a heavy burden for the opposition!
LB must take a step back and create the opportunity for the DP to hold elections! Democrats are winners, refuse to call third place victory! The Democratic Party will be rebuilt, the strength and energy of the Democrats is inexhaustible!
Most members of the Democratic Party Group have demanded the resignation of party leader Lulzim Basha during a four-hour meeting the day before, following the failure of the March 6 by-elections in six municipalities.
Agron Gjekmarkaj decided to resign as deputy chairman of the Democratic Party, while Dashnor Sula stated that he is ready to leave the post of deputy, if the current situation in the Democratic Party does not change.
During the meeting, only Flamur Hoxha, Arbi Agalliu and Oriola Pampuri were on Basha’s side, while the rest were in favor of resigning from the post and holding elections in the party.
The leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha continues not to accept the deep defeat in the local by-elections, where not only could not get any municipality, but was ranked third force with fewer votes than Sali Berisha’s coalition with the SMI and the PDK.
The March 6 elections had a great value for the democratic electorate, where it was expected to show the support of the Democrats who for months now have been divided on two fronts, those who support Basha and those who support Berisha.
The Socialist Party managed to get five of the six municipalities in the race, Vora, Rrogoshina, Dibra, Lushnja and Durres, while the “House of Freedom” coalition won in Shkodra.
